The Consell de Mallorca, that is, the Island Council of Mallorca, this year will increasingly inspect illegal tourist rentals in Mallorca.
Since the Consell de Mallorca took over responsibility for tourism management on January 1, it has already issued 361 inspection reports related to illegal tourist rentals. Since then, inspections are carried out daily, especially in Palma.
These procedures can lead to fines between 20,000 and 40,000 euros. In addition, the tourism authority announced its intention to achieve a "maximum number of inspections".
The mission of the Consell de Mallorca is focused on combating illegal tourist rentals in apartment buildings in Palma. This type of rental in Palma, is not allowed in such properties. The 15 inspectors of the Tourism Authority will also carry out a "comprehensive control" of tourist marketing platforms.
Another priority of the Consell de Mallorca, will be the continued monitoring of compliance with the decree against excessive tourism approved in 2020. The aim of the decree is to improve the quality in tourist areas. In the first months of this year, according to the authority, controls have already been carried out in Calvià and Platja de Palma, although the number of controls was not specified.
